Maximum Roof PitchRoof pitch is a construction term that relates the slope (raise vs. run) of a roof. For example a 4:12 pitch roof will raise 4' in height for every 12' along the vertical run. Homes have differing roof pitches for both aesthetics and function (snow load). The base of our cupolas allow for installation on roofs up to a particular pitch, as stated in the specs. If your roof has a lower pitch than what is listed, our cupolas will install easily on your roof. Be sure to check the maximum pitch for the cupola before ordering. The maximum pitches are determined by the size of the cupolas. If the pitch is listed as 12/12 (12’ raise per 12’ run) the roof slope is 45 degrees, this is common in a Cape Cod style house, but most roofs are less steep. To find the pitch of your roof, this can be done with a level and a tape measure. Place the level as shown in the drawing, and raise the end until level. Measure out 12” from the point where the level touches the roof. Then from that point, measure the distance from the bottom of the level to the roof. In the example shown, the roof pitch is 6/12. (add drawing)
