Wood stain/sealer protects the wood from the elements, reducing the risk of insect and rot damage, and weathering over time. Stains often change the color of the lumber to allow for personalization as well. The benefits (and color strength) naturally decrease over time... for continued protection and color retention, we recommend re-staining all wood products once every 2 years.
Unstained wood will naturally gray over time, gradually turning to a silver patina which many people enjoy. We offer this "unstained" option for these cases, or for those who would like to purchase their own stain or paint elsewhere, and apply it themselves.
