Sizing Details: Pergolas
Outside Post Corners
For most of our pergola styles, the dimensions are measured by the outside corners of the posts. This measurement does NOT include the overhang of beams and runners, post trim, or the size of vinyl sleeves for vinyl pergolas. These additional dimensions are excluded because they depend the customization options selected in the Design Wizard.

If your project requires a size that is not listed, we can build a pergola to your exact measurements. Be sure to discuss this with one of our Project Advisors.

Top Edges Without End Caps
The size dimensions for this pergola style are measured from the length of the beams and rafters excluding the additional end caps. The end cap is not included in the measurement because not all end caps are the same size or shape, and custom end caps can be used instead.

Outside Top Edges
The size dimensions for Aluminum and Fiberglass pergola styles are measured from the outside ends of the beams and rafters on top of the structure, also referred to as the roof line. Although many of our pergola sizes are measured from the outside post corners, this style is different because the post positions can be adjusted some during assembly to suit the needs of the project.

Pergola Styles Measured by Outside Top Edges:

Eyebrow Pergolas
Our Eyebrow Pergolas are measured from the outside edge of the beams. The braces will sit inside this, so the area spanned will be less than the size selected.

To find the minimum size of Eyebrow Pergola required: A + B

A. Measure the inside span, then add a few extra inches so the braces do not touch the edges of a window, garage door, or other feature that must be spanned.

B. Refer to the table below for the additional span the desired material/style of Eyebrow Pergola requires, then add this value to A from the previous step. The result is the minimum pergola size for your project.

NOTE 1: Larger Eyebrow sizes can have 3 or more braces, so there are more inside spans to consider in those cases. Please call to discuss these situations, or any other questions, with one of our Project Advisors.

NOTE 2: Switching to a flat end cut can reduce the amount of additional span (B.) required for your total pergola size since the braces can be located closer to the ends of the beams. If interested, please discuss with a Project Advisor.
